My New Toy!

This is my new toy, but mine's black. John and I found it at Costco for a great price, and we couldn't pass it up. (Just for the record, I rarely buy big ticket items when I shop alone, but when I shop with John at my side the bill goes way up). Anyway, we had talked about it for some time, so we caved and got one. I am nibbling peanut butter cookies in between keystrokes. I wanted to try something simple first...I'm not disappointed! Yum, yum.

First Day of School

The first day of school brings back memories of anxiety and nerves. I feel them for my children today. Here it is, not even the middle of August and I'm sending my children off to learn from someone else. I like their school. We've been lucky that, so far, their teachers have been good, some great. Hayden was fortunate this year to get the same teacher Sidney had when she was in 1st grade. I am ecstatic! Sidney's teacher seems very sweet and very interested in the kids. Cross our fingers that Sidney ends up liking her.

We have to have the traditional first day photos.

Does Sidney like pink, or what?

What? No bright yellow or camo for Hayden?

My cutie pie taking a self portrait on the ride to school.

Here they are, heading for their classes...now the rest of the year will jump to light speed right in front of my eyes. Hold on tight!

This first day was not as bitter as last year. We've gone through the motions before. Sidney was more than happy to start school again. I think Hayden may take a few days of convincing, we'll have to wait and see. For me, my list of things to get done is not that long, but then again I haven't finished completing the list. I do, however, have a stack of books that is calling my name and they are calling much louder than the TO Do List. I don't think I'll be too crushed that my kids are gone for the first little while. Besides, they get to reconnect with friends and play on the playground and check out stuff at the library and... Yeah, I'm pretty sure they won't miss me either.

O Hernia!

So, we took off for Las Vegas last Monday so that John could have his umbilical hernia repaired through surgery. He researched several places and found this specialist in Las Vegas who performs roughly 3-8 hernias repairs per day. AND the best part was that he and his team only charge a flat fee for the appointment, surgery, hospital, follow-up, etc. No hidden charges, just a reasonable flat fee. The surgery normally takes 30 minutes, but John's only took 15. Unfortunately, the hernia was larger than expected, but the healing time would be the same. John was out of it for a couple days, but he's recovering quickly and feeling more normal everyday. Of course, there are some things that he won't be able to do for a while, but he's not in much pain, just discomfort and itching. Now, he's got an "innie" instead of and "outie"!

What happens in Vegas...

If you ever plan to visit Las Vegas or are just passing through you might want to catch a show...I adamantly recommend a Cirque de Soleil show. We made plans to be in Las Vegas for other reasons I may later venture to explain, and so we decided while we there that we'd check out a show. Since we had the kids with us we had to make sure it was family friendly. There are 2 Cirque de Soleil shows that are family friendly in Vegas, "O" and "KA". Since KA was the only one showing on the night we were going to be there we bought tickets. You should really check out the trailer.

Okay, so the show is AMAZING!!! It's a vertical, eye-popping, stimulating show. The kids loved it! We loved it! It was worth paying a month's worth of groceries to go see! (We now have to eat PB&J for the month of August, but totally worth it)!
John saw O a few years back and had a similar reaction. We might make another trip soon so that I can catch O as well.
